An estimated 25 million Americans are affected by urinary or bowel incontinence, while millions more endure chronic pelvic pain. All of these conditions are highly treatable, yet most people choose to suffer in silence. A team of board certified urologists, licensed physical therapists, registered nurses and other specialists offer private consultations and intervention to each patient, properly evaluating one’s condition and recommending the most effective treatment plan.

In most cases, incontinence and other pelvic conditions can be cured or successfully managed. So if you are affected, speak to your doctor today. This is one secret that is not worth keeping, because treatment could restore your confidence, freedom and active lifestyle.

Who Can We Help?
The Center for Continence & Pelvic Rehabilitation provides assessment and treatment for a broad range of conditions, including but not limited to the following:

• urinary incontinence (stress incontinence and urge incontinence)

• bowel incontinence

• pelvic pain

• hemorrhoids

• interstitial cystitis

• levator ani syndrome

• dysmenorrhea (painful menses)

• dyspareunia (pain during intercourse)

• prolapse

What is Incontinence?
Representing our most common diagnosis, incontinence is the loss of bladder or bowel control. It affects up to half of all women at some point in their lives, and one in 10 people over age 65.

It is important to understand that incontinence is a symptom, not a disease, and may be caused by various disorders, such as weak or overactive bladder muscles, pelvic or spinal cord injury, enlarged prostate, neurological disease, infection or other underlying issues. While incontinence is more prevalent among the elderly, it is not triggered by aging.

What is Pelvic Pain?
Pelvic pain, which affects both men and women, is generally characterized by pain in the abdominal or pelvic region, though it can also radiate pain to the lower back or legs. It can stem from many different conditions, including pregnancy, endometriosis, constipation, pelvic dysfunction or surgery. The pain can be so severe that it interferes with daily living and quality of life.

How Is My Condition Diagnosed?
Following a physical examination and medical history obtained by your physician, The Center for Continence & Pelvic Rehabilitation will conduct a complete diagnostic evaluation. This process may include various outpatient tests, such as urinalysis, blood screening and video urodynamics.

State-of-the-Art Technology

Video urodynamics is an innovative procedure that utilizes imaging technology and pressure monitoring to detect disorders of the urinary tract system. A combination of graphics and radiologic images provide detailed information about the bladder and urethra so physicians can pinpoint the exact area of pathology or abnormalities.

What Kind of Treatments are Available?
Once your condition is diagnosed, our experts will work closely with your physician to develop a personalized treatment plan. Options vary considerably, ranging from non-invasive therapies to surgical intervention.

Physical Therapy – Physical therapy often plays a vital role in treating incontinence and pelvic disorders. Our licensed physical therapists assist patients with several highly effective modalities, including biofeedback, electrical stimulation, Kegel exercises, manual therapies, pelvic massage, therapeutic ultrasound, bladder training and other exercises that relieve pain or promote urinary and/or bowel control.

Medication – In some cases, a physician may recommend pharmacological therapy as part of your treatment program.

Surgery – When less invasive therapies are inappropriate or ineffective, surgery may be advised to correct a structural problem or to implant devices that cure or manage incontinence or other disorders.
