Mammography

A mammography, an x-ray of the breast, is one of the safest and most reliable methods of detecting abnormalities in breast tissue. Mammography should always be done in conjunction with a monthly breast self-exam and an annual physical. When these procedures are done routinely, chances are high that an abnormality can be detected early. Early detection is the key to combating breast cancer.

Stereotactic Vacuum Assisted Core Needle Biopsy

Stereotactic Vacuum Assisted Core Needle Biopsy is a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that allows an abnormal area of the breast to be examined. This equipment uses x-ray and computer technology to precisely localize the site to be examined. Once found, a hollow needle is inserted into the breast and small samples of tissue are removed. This revolutionary new procedure is a less painful and less costly alternative to standard open surgical biopsy and can be performed using local anesthesia. With the assistance of the upgraded vacuum assisted technology, the procedure is quicker and tissue sampling is more precise

Bone Densitometry

Bone Densitometry helps diagnose osteoporosis, a preventable disease that causes women’s bones to become weak and, therefore, vulnerable to fractures. Osteoporosis tends to affect women after menopause, in addition to those who are inactive, smoke or drink large amounts of alcohol. Bone Densitometry easily assesses bone density at the femur, spine and other skeletal sites in just minutes. This x-ray machine uses very low radiation. The patient lies on the table while a small beam of radiation passes through the region being examined. Results are calculated quickly. The scan, data analysis and printing of results take about ten minutes.

Ultrasonic Technology

For some patients who cannot be biopsied stereotactically, ultrasound technology enables patients to be biopsied for types of nodules and masses that are not seen on x-ray. Ultrasound is highly effective for imaging soft tissue. It can detect and locate abnormal growths, such as breast lesions.
