Professional Education
Raritan Bay's Perth Amboy Division has been a teaching hospital and training center since 1903, maintaining the philosophy that excellence in health education is the keystone to excellence in health care. Numerous professional education programs are offered to our physicians and staff to keep pace with the rapidly changing world on oncology care and treatment.


Medical Grand Rounds
Held each Tuesday with one session each month devoted to a Cancer specific issue. Grand Rounds are held in Centennial Hall at the Perth Amboy Division and teleconferenced to Old Bridge in Auxiliary Hall B. Call (732) 324-5015 for the schedule of upcoming events.

Oncology Teaching Seminars
Held the third Monday of each month. At this seminar a medical oncologist, a pathologist, a radiologist, a surgeon and other internal medicine physicians provide internal medicine residents with an in-depth view of a specific cancer. They are held in Raritan Room C&D at the Perth Amboy Division.

Tumor Board
Multidisciplinary Tumor Board conferences are held the fourth Friday of the month January to October and the third Friday of the month of November and December for the practicing physicians and clinical staff involved in the management of cancer patients. Case presentations include a review of patient's history, physical findings, clinical course of the diverse, radiographic studies and pathological slides. These conferences provide a forum for physicians from all disciplines involved in the care of cancer patients to present cases for discussion with the objective of providing guidance in the proper choice of therapeutic alternatives in the management of the cancer patient. These conferences are held in Centennial Hall at the Perth Amboy division with a concurrent videoconference broadcast at the Old Bridge Division.

Breast Cancer Conference
Under the direction of Kumar Dasmahapatra, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery and the Medical Director for the Center for Women, a monthly breast cancer conference is offered on the first Wednesday of each month at the Old Bridge Division. These conferences provide physicians a forum to discuss the management of patients with breast cancer. Concurrent videoconference viewing is available at the Perth Amboy Division.

The Wilentz Professional Lecture Series
Wilentz Lecture is held annually in the fall and focuses on a current topic in cancer care. The October 2002 topic was "Lymphoid Malignancies in the 21st Century" and featured Roger Strair, MD, Bauton Kamen, MD and Joseph Bertino, MD from the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Videotapes of this lecture are available at the Medical Library at (732) 324-5838.

Oncology Focused Nursing Lectures
Staff Development provides oncology focused lectures and programs for the nursing staff throughout the year to hone skills and introduce new techniques for caring for the special need of cancer patients and their families.
