Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia Caregivers Support Group

When a loved one suffers from a memory problem, life can be especially difficult. Our support group provides complete support for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, depression and other memory problems addressing both the physical and emotional needs of a patient and their family. Caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia are invited to attend.

Bariatric Weight Loss Support Group

For those who have had weight loss surgery, contemplating weight loss surgery or just trying to maintain a healthy weight, facilitator Lauretta Thompson, RN, MSN, CRNI, will lead discussions on the concerns surrounding weight loss surgery as well as its successes. Family and friends are welcome.

Diabetes Support Group

Support group leader Debbie Petrizzo, RN invites anyone coping with diabetes as well as their spouse or caregiver to attend, share experiences and learn the latest diabetes management information. Participants determine discussion topics. Meetings will be visited periodically by guest speakers to discuss important health topics.

Cardiac Club

Cardiac Club is a free monthly support group for those diagnosed with heart disease or who want to learn about heart disease and other topics concerning healthy living. A cardiac nurse educator facilitates the meetings and the group is frequently visited by guest speakers, including doctors, nurses, dietitians, and other health care related professionals, who interact with participants and address specific topics. Topics discussed include congestive heart failure, angina, heart attack, pacemakers, weight loss tips, anxiety and stress, herbal and cardiac drugs and low fat diets.

Infectious Disease and Immunology Support group

Individuals with HIV can receive comprehensive medical care and treatment, including specialized health education and case management services, through the medical center’s Early Intervention Program. Comprehensive HIV services include the AIDS Outreach and Support Program and free and confidential HIV counseling and testing.
