What Does Bariatric Mean?
Bariatrics is a branch of medicine that deals specifically with the treatment of and issues relating to obesity.
Am I a Candidate?
Weight loss surgery is not a guarantee for permanent weight loss. Rather, it is a means to start you on the way to a healthy weight so you will feel healthier.
You may qualify for bariatric surgery if you exhibit these indications:

  • You have a BMI of 40 or more or you have a BMI of 35 to 39.9 with serious medical conditions such as high blood cholesterol and triglycerides, hypertension, sleep apnea, Type II diabetes or other serious cardiopulmonary disorders.
  • You have tried other weight loss methods such as changes in eating; behavior, exercise and/or drug therapy and you are still severely obese.
  • You are restricted from performing routine daily activities related to work and family and your quality of life is seriously impaired due to severe obesity.
  • You understand the procedure as well as the risks and effects after surgery.
  • You are motivated to making a lifelong behavioral commitment that includes well-balanced eating and physical activities necessary to achieve the best results.

Remember these are just general guidelines. It is best to consult your physician for a specific evaluation of your condition.
