Bariatrics and Surgical Weight Loss
Ayotunde Adeyeri, M.D., FASMBS
Dr. Ayotunde Adeyeri is a board-certified and fellowship-trained bariatric, advanced laparoscopic and general surgeon specializing in bariatric weight loss surgery and other GI region operations.
He serves as medical director of The Institute for Weight Loss at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge, leading a team of specially-trained bariatric professionals to help people overcome the chronic disease of obesity and weight-related medical conditions. He also maintains a private surgical practice with offices in Holmdel and Old Bridge.
Education and Professional Training
Dr. Adeyeri completed his general surgery residency at Columbia University’s Harlem Hospital Center in New York, where he was appointed Chief Resident from 2006-2007. During his residency training, he completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in transplantation immunobiology.
At the University of Rochester, he completed post-doctoral fellowship training in minimally-invasive and general surgery, specializing in bariatric surgery, specifically the gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric banding insertion and removal, revision surgery and duodenal switch operations.
Dr. Adeyeri is married and the father of three daughters. His interests outside of medicine include cheering on Manchester United and being active with his family.
Robert Barbalinardo, M.D. FACS
Dr. Robert Barbalinardo is a board-certified general surgeon with specialized experience in laparoendoscopic surgery, colorectal surgery and bariatric surgery. He has advanced training in procedures such as colonoscopy and proctectomy with total mesolectal excision (TME). Dr. Barbalinardo is an assistant clinical professor in the department of surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UM.D.NJ). He has held several administrative positions at Mountainside Hospital, including director of the department of surgery. Dr. Barbalinardo has been named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine every year since 2007. He has also been named one of “America’s Top Surgeons” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.
Marius Calin, M.D. FACS
Dr. Marius Calin is a general surgeon board certified both in Europe and United States, fellowship trained in advanced gastrointestinal surgery, minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) and advanced endoscopy.
Silvia Fresco M.D., FACS
Dr. Silvia Fresco is a board-certified general surgeon. She earned her medical degree from UM.D.NJ and completed her internship and residency training at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Fresco’s areas of specialization in bariatric surgery include gastric band, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy. She belongs to a number of academic and professional associations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Fresco has been named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine every year from 2007. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Fresco is very patient-centered and known for being caring, compassionate and thorough.
Richard Greco, D.O.
Dr. Richard Greco received his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency training at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical and Trauma Center in Paterson, where he served as chief surgical resident and was one of the four original founding surgical residents. He then completed fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center. Dr. Greco also completed a surgical internship at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, N.Y. He is the recipient of the SLS Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Award. He has contributed to a number of poster presentations and belongs to several professional organizations in the field. Dr. Greco speaks English and Spanish.
Juan Lujan, M.D.
Juan Jose Lujan M.D. specializes in minimally invasive general surgeries for hernia, colo-rectal disorders and gallbladder disease and most recently completed his fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to his fellowship training, Dr. Lujan completed his surgical residency at Morristown Medical Center where he served as chief resident and received the Resident Achievement Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Lujan earned his medical degree from the National University of Cuyo located in Mendoza, Argentina. He is the member of both the American Medical Association and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Lujan has an extensive background in research and has been published in many publications. Dr. Lujan is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Bridget Polansky has recently joined the Raritan Bay Medical Center team in July 2020 as the new outpatient dietitian. Bridget has been a registered dietitian for 2+ years. Bridget can help to answer any questions you may have about the bariatric diet before, during, and after your surgery.
Dr. Vishal Mehta
Dr. Mehta is a surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery and body contouring. In 2002, he became amongst the first fellowship trained bariatric surgeons in the United States. He founded the Mehta Bariatric Center, dedicating his time and focus on the treatment of obesity. Since then he has performed 3,000 weight loss surgeries, which led to about 250,000 lbs. of weight loss. He has also performed another 1,000 body contouring procedures such as Liposuction, Tummy-tucks & Body Lifts. He was amongst the first to perform Robotic Bariatric Surgery, Single Incision Lap-Band & Single Incision Gastric Sleeve and has served as Chief of Bariatric Surgery at 2 hospitals.
James Nangeroni, D.O.
Desiree Rios BSN, RN, CNOR
Desiree has 19 years of experience in operating rooms of various settings such as ambulatory surgery centers and hospital ORs. She is a Certified Nurse of the Operating Room and received her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Thomas Edison State University. As the program coordinator for the Institute for Weight Loss, she is responsible for pre and post-op education for patients undergoing bariatric surgery. As well as, follow up communication and data collection. Desiree organizes the seminars, attends the support group and remains a constant resource for patients. She is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Jonathan Reich, M.D. FACS
Dr. Jonathan Reich is a board-certified general surgeon that has been voted a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Reich attended medical school at the Universidad Iberoamericana, located in the Dominican Republic. He completed his general surgery residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, N.J. Dr. Reich then completed an advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.
The doctor’s current practice focus is bariatric surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery including gastric band, gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and revision bariatric surgery. He has helped more than 3,000 weight loss surgery patients achieve a healthier lifestyle. Dr. Reich also has a special interest in the laparoscopic treatment of reflux disease; using minimally invasive techniques, he has helped numerous individuals achieve relief from the troubles of GERD.
Dr. Reich is well known within his field and is often called upon to speak to fellow professionals. The doctor has been invited to present and lecture to international audiences during academic teleconferences. He has also published numerous articles in medical journals on topics ranging from hernia repair to gastric bypass to Lap-Band.
He maintains hospital privileges at several New Jersey facilities, including Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy and Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel.

Oluseun A. Sowemimo M.D. F.A.C.S.
Seun Sowemimo (Dr. Seun), M.D., FACS, FASMBS is a board-certified and fellowship-trained general, laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon specializing in minimally invasive weight loss surgery and other advanced surgical techniques.
He completed fellowship training in advanced minimally invasive (laparoscopic), robotic and open bariatric surgery at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven, CT, a 511-bed teaching hospital affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Seun completed his general surgery internship and residency training at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, Harlem Hospital Center, New York, where he was also appointed Chief Resident. Additionally, he earned a medical degree at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
He completed surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, after undergoing clinical clerkships at Kings College Hospital, both in London.
Dr. Sowemimo serves as medical director at Prime Surgicare, a private bariatric, advanced laparoscopic and general surgery practice; and Central Jersey Bariatrics, a weight loss surgery practice,located in Freehold.
In addition to presenting at medical society and national meetings, Dr. Seun is actively involved in several professional healthcare organizations: American Medical Association (AMA); Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons; Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons; American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons; American College of Surgeons.
He also maintains a popular YouTube channel, Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery, where he discusses topics related to weight loss, nutrition and healthy living.
Dr. Seun practices medicine with an enthusiastic, positive and inspiring point of view. In his personal life, he is passionate about utilizing a whole food plant-based diet for optimal health and vitality. He is married to a physician and they have three children. In his spare time, Dr. Seun enjoys a good round of tennis and biking on weekends with his bariatric patients.
Karl Strom, M.D. FACS
Dr. Karl Strom is honored to have changed the lives of more than 5,000 patients through weight loss surgery in more than 10 years of practice. Dr. Strom has been named a “Top Doc” by New Jersey Monthly Magazine every year from 2007, currently a total of 12 years.
Dr. Strom earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont and his master’s degree from Montclair State University. He attended medical school at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada in the West Indies. Dr. Strom completed his general surgery residency program at Westchester Medical Center at New York Medical College and was selected as chief resident. He remained at Westchester Medical Center to finish a minimally invasive surgery fellowship.
The doctor currently focuses on performing bariatric surgery (including gastric band, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy), revision bariatric surgery, laparoscopic surgery and general surgery. He uses minimally invasive techniques to treat disorders and diseases of the hernia, gallbladder, colon and spleen.
Highly respected in his field, Dr. Strom serves as a proctor, teaching other bariatric surgeons the latest techniques and technologies. He has published in numerous medical journals on topics related to bariatric surgery and laparoscopic procedures.
Dr. Strom is proud to have overseen the successful “Bariatric Center of Excellence” designations at Mountainside Hospital, Bayshore Medical Center and Southern Ocean Medical Center (he has affiliations with these facilities).

Domenique serves as the certified Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer for 6 years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is also certified as a medical assistant, phlebotomist and EKG tech. Most recently, she received her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. She is responsible for data collection and review of all post-operative outcomes.
Laura Giménez, MS, RDN
Laura graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Nutritional Sciences and went on to complete her Dietetic Internship with a concentration in Medical Nutrition Therapy in Clinical and Community Dietetics at the Rutgers School of Health Professions. She works closely with surgical weight loss patients to smoothly transition through all diet phases and meet their individual weight loss goals. Laura also provides outpatient nutrition counseling helping the community with weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney disease, and gastrointestinal intestinal disorders, among others. Through her experience, Laura has learned and adamantly believes that nutrition is individualized and there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach. Keeping this in mind, she works with her patients to determine what is most important to them, develop an individualized plan, and ultimately guide them towards reaching their health goals.
