Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
Our full-service Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in Perth Amboy performs over 1000 cases, annually. It is equipped with state- of-the-art digital imaging technology that allows physicians to accurately diagnose coronary artery disease, valve disease and congenital heart anomalies. These services are available around-the-clock and are expertly performed by an experienced team of interventional cardiologists, registered nurses and cardiovascular technologists.
Raritan Bay Medical Center is among a select group of New Jersey hospitals approved by the State Health Commissioner to perform both primary and elective angioplasty (C-Port Study). Primary angioplasty is regarded as the most effective intervention for heart attacks. “Time is muscle,” so delays in treating a heart attack increase the likelihood and amount of cardiac muscle damage. The Door to Balloon time national benchmark is 90 minutes but at Raritan Bay Medical Center our Door to Balloon times average is only 65.5 minutes.
Raritan Bay Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Service responds to thousands of calls in Perth Amboy, Old Bridge and surrounding communities. During a heart attack or stroke emergency EMS can remotely communicate with the hospital enabling the hospital clinicians to prepare for their treatment prior to arrival. This allows the medical center to achieve heart attack treatment times significantly lower than the national benchmark.
Non-Invasive Diagnostic Tools
Raritan Bay Medical Center employs a vast range of non-invasive diagnostic tools for detecting and managing heart disease. It is also one of only a few hospitals in the country to utilize three-dimensional cardiography. The facility performs over 20,000 procedures annually, with a full complement of tests that include:
- cardiac stress tests
- holter monitoring
- nuclear stress tests
- signal-average electrocardiograms
- transesophogeal echocardiograms
